Yesterday was the official opening for the Light City Festival. I decided to bring the inflatable to the event at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum to drum up some excitement for the installation happening from April 13 - 24.
Have Herd will travel.
Driving around town with a giant inflatable toy is quite an experience: people enjoyed seeing the herdling, and I definitely caught site of a few people behind me taking shots with their phones—be careful people!
Tall meets...small?
Light City regulars Big Whimsy were in the house, and were the first folks that I met coming in the door. Folks were very excited to see the herdling...seems like folks have been talking about them a lot. BOPA had turned out a pretty lavish breakfast buffet, but I decided to work the room, and who should I run into but Catherine Pugh, the mayor of our fair city!
Oh my god! It's me and the Mayor!
She did OK, but I am sad that I look so derpy. It was good to get a chance to talk to her and pitch the new non-profit partners who will be benefiting from The Herd.
Once the coffee ran out, I left to check out the staging area in Greektown where the herdlings will live while waiting to be re-homed. Baltimore still has some wonderful decrepit industrial architecture. Going to these sites reminds me why I love it here.
Shades of Sheeler...
It was nice to have the silence of the factories after such a busy event. After a wander we headed homewards to Lake Montebello reservoir to say goodnight.
Goodnight, herdling! Goodnight, Baltimore.
