Window 26 is a small local projection experiment taking place the second weekend of every month in the front window of my home in Butcher's Hill, Baltimore. It's a way of sharing art in a public space that's intimate yet at a safe distance.

It’s hard for us to know when we’ll be able to enjoy art together again. While we wait for our favorite galleries and other art venues to return, here’s a little unexpected corner to enjoy. Window26 is a small local projection experiment taking place in the front window of my home in Butcher's Hill, Baltimore. It's a way of sharing art in a public space that's intimate yet at a safe distance.

Time-based media artists of all stripes are invited to submit work for a series of programmed nights of projection this summer. Artists who do not work in time-based media, but have some interesting ideas of how to work with the site are also encouraged to submit ideas here, or contact me via email.

The Herd Thanks YOU!

The Herd Thanks YOU!

The Herd installation raised $2000 for its associated non-profit partners during the 2018 Light City Festival in Baltimore City. All proceeds from the sale of the inflatables will go to benefit three water-oriented Baltimore non-profits: Waterfront Partnership's Healthy Harbor Initiative, the Baltimore-based performance group Fluid Movement, and the Living Classrooms Foundation, ensuring that the art piece has a life of its own after the festival, and that the materials used in fabrication will be put to a good (and fun) re-use.

During the chilly week of April 13 - 22, thousands of visitors came to our city to enjoy the festival and saw the 320 inflatables of The Herd in the Inner Harbor.

This piece would have been impossible to realize without the help and dedication of the volunteers who braved the elements and dedicated their time to this silly and amazing undertaking!

Music: Cornelius, "Micro Disneycal World Tour" from the album FANTASMA.

This Fall, Light City’s inflatable sensation The Herd takes their act on the road to visit Toledo, OH for the MOMENTUM Festival September 19 - 21, followed by an extended engagement until October 6.

This installation of inflatable, glow in the dark luminous beings will take place at One Seagate Plaza, on the banks of the Maumee River. The Herd is both a reminder to protect our natural resources and a tribute to all the citizens who continue to hope and support healthy waterways for our cities and our country.

Once again, we’re partnering with an excellent non-profit friend of water—Toledo’s very own Partners for Clean Streams! $5 from the purchase of each Herdling will be donated to PCS,a terrific local non-profit that strives to provide open space and clean natural water resources for the greater Toledo area, and ensure as little of this project as possible ends up as waste.

The MOMENTUM Festival is a free festival of music and art in downtown Toledo featuring the work of local and international artists and musicians. We’re proud to be a part of this important creative event. One Herdling is currently taking the town by storm and enjoying Summer in The 419…we’ll be seeing them (and, maybe, you!) in September!

The Herd

The Herd

Baltimore’s Inner harbor is a thriving, active place. It features amazing institutions like the Visionary Art Museum and the Museum of Industry. Harbor East offers diners a great diversity of gastronomic options. And sometimes it’s nice to blend in with the flocks of tourists to stroll the waterside, or take the water taxi to enjoy a panorama unavailable anywhere else in the city.

One thing one does not do, however, is take a refreshing dip.

The Herd is a tribute to all the citizens of Baltimore City who continue to hope for a healthy city and healthy waterways. It is a cluster of 400 luminous inflatable swim rings—similar in appearance to the floats used by swimmers at the seaside—laced together in a net to form a glowing multitude of creatures calmly bobbing in the shimmering ripples of the nighttime harbor.

The Herd amused, confounded and delighted visitors to Baltimore City's annual Light City Festival from April 13 - 22, 2018. The artist launched over 300 solar powered inflatables into Baltimore's inner Harbor. The installation took three days to complete with a dedicated crew of artists and volunteers, and used over 6000 feet of rope to position and secure all of the inflatables in a 120' by 340' foot area.

In the interest of carrying The Herd's message of water health beyond the Harbor and the Bay, the inflatables were sold during the festival to benefit three water-oriented Baltimore non-profits: Waterfront Partnership's Healthy Harbor Initiative, the Baltimore-based performance group Fluid Movement, and the Living Classrooms Foundation, ensuring that the art piece has a life of its own after the festival, and that the materials used in fabrication will be put to a good (and fun) re-use.

The Herd raised over $4000 for our water loving non-profit partners. Eighty-four Herdlings were purchased by supporters during the festival and have been successfully re-homed, ensuring that these inflatables will continue to be loved and used, and will stay out of landfills. These donations will help these organizations continue their good work with our waterways and communities. The Herdling inflatables are still for available for sale now! If you are interested in Adopting a Herdling, please send an email our way!
